In today’s Gospel, we see that Jesus has now left the house of the ruler of the Pharisees to continue His journey toward Jerusalem and His appointment with the cross. That is when Jesus spoke provocative words that, well, don’t really sound like Jesus!

Today’s Scripture continues in the Gospel of St. Luke, and here in the beginning of the 14th Chapter we find Jesus once again engaged in a battle of wits with His arch enemies, the Pharisees. Yet, Jesus in His love for all people will attempt to reach even these Legalists, by use of a very unique parable.

Last Sunday we heard Jesus warn us that following Him would cause much division, even within our own family.

The truth is, most of Jesus’ preaching as He traveled throughout the towns and villages, journeying toward Jerusalem, consisted of numerous warnings; Warnings that the time is short; Warnings that Judgment is coming for everyone; Warnings that calling yourself a Christian doesn’t mean anything, if you don’t possess a saving faith in the Lord Christ as defined within the Bible.

This morning’s text is yet another such text from Jesus, in fact it presents to us a very important question along with critical words aimed directly at people alive today, who imagine themselves to be, Christian.

God’s Word for today that the Holy Spirit has caused to be recorded, continues in the long dissertation that Jesus was having with His disciples and others that we have been studying over the past couple weeks.

And as we continue today in Luke’s Gospel, one thing is made clear, and that is, that there are only two choices in life, a person stands either with Jesus, or stands in opposition against Him.

Our Gospel text today begins immediately where we left off last week, after Jesus had just cautioned this large crowd of the dangers of covetousness, with His p[arable of the Rich Fool.

Today we will again hear Jesus teach by means of a parable, however this parable cuts right to the heart of salvation and eternal life as it deals with His second coming.

As we continue our journey through Luke’s Gospel, we are presented with another very significant preaching event from Jesus, one that deals with the philosophy of life.
In fact, because the subject matter of this text is so applicable to every one of us, we would be wise to listen and hear with ears to hear, to all that Jesus says!

In our Gospel lesson for today that the Holy Spirit has caused to be recorded, Jesus traches us about prayer. Is it complicated? No! It is actually, very simple!

Our Gospel lesson for today that the Holy Spirit has caused to be recorded, presents us with a domestic story of two different individuals. What’s the story? It’s the story about two sisters, with two different priorities, Mary, and Martha.

In today’s study, that the Holy Spirit moved St. Luke to record for our clarification of the truth, is a well-known, very familiar story from Jesus, the Parable of the Good Samaritan. But do you really understand what Jesus is teaching in this story?
