Two weeks ago, we had the parable of the five wise and five foolish virgins; last Sunday we heard the parable of the talents; and today we have the completion of this study which describes what will happen to both classes of individuals when the Lord Christ returns to separate them, one from another, as a Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

In last week’s sermon, Jesus sternly warned that when He comes, some will be ready for that coming, and some will not be ready for that coming.

For many people, the Book of Revelation is a book of scary things because it deals with the second coming of Christ, the resurrection of all human beings, believers, and nonbelievers together, the final judgment, and the end of this world; However, properly understood, the Book of Revelation shouldn’t scare anyone! Because the entire Book of Revelation is a scene of victory and triumph!

For the past few weeks now, we have been with Jesus in Jerusalem, in the temple, during holy week, listening to Him teach about the kingdom of God thru the use of some of His most discerning parables on heaven and hell.

And during this entire time, the Pharisees and other enemies of Jesus have been challenging His authority and seeking ways to trick Him into some kind of crime against the state that could then be used against Him with the Roman authorities; this is a key contextual point to today’s study.

For the third week in a row, our Gospel places us still in the temple with our Lord during Holy Week being confronted by the same group of Sanhedrists who had been blatantly challenging His authority. And what we will again see is that Jesus will use yet another parable, the “Parable of the Wedding Feast”, to to teach these religious hypocrites, and us, that He is The Christ, the long-promised Messiah, and that rejecting Him as their Savior means only one thing, their exclusion from the kingdom of heaven.
